Jovemcafe
This lot comes from two producers, Narcisa Salucio and Paula Perez. They are members of a small organization, Jovemcafe, that was founded by indigenous Popti women in the Com community outside San Antonio Huista. The group was formed to improve market access for their coffees as well as provide savings and microcredit services to the group's members.
Narcisa and Paula each process their coffee at home. Paula (who also happens to lead Jovemcafe) is an agronomist in training and has encouraged the group to adopt longer fermentations of up to 58 hours, in part due to their community's high elevation and the relatively cool temperatures in their area.
The resulting coffee is superb, with a clear and sweet character. I get hints of macadamia, apricot, and lime.
